Tourism in this area did not occur until the mid-nineteenth century, and it was then that it began to attract people who sought to find nature and relax at this municipality.
Despite this great flow of tourism, Calvia still keeps the peace that has always characterized it. There are only a few shops and cafés; it is far from the coastal centers of the region which are full of entertainment stores.
Although it may look like a modest municipality, the evidence of wealth is very clear through the modern sports facilities of Calvia, which contrasts with the traditional aesthetic of the rest of the town.
But in general, the municipality of Calvia is in itself a point of tourism interest. It is full of old architectural constructions that provide the municipality with a historic environment capable of attracting thousands of visitors every year. Most of these buildings were built in the seventeenth century.
The tourism interest does not end here. Among some historical buildings of Calvia you can find the ruins of an ancient Roman villa. And speaking of ruins, the impressive church of Sant Joan Baptista was built on the ruins of a twelfth century church.
This area is very quiet, the perfect place to take a break and relax on its small beaches or getting lost among its mountains.
Andratx and Puerto Portals are a few minutes away. Magaluf, Santa Ponsa and Paguera are a little more hectic areas nearby.
Easily accessible by its proximity to the foot of La Sierra de Tramuntana and close to a large number of hiking routes and mountain bikers.
